![]() Metallic ![]() I have never been a "big fan" of this band, however, in the last year i have grown to appreciate their style of music, and the quality of their recordings. The concert dvd was not a dissapointment. The different camera angles and the digital 5.1 surround make this a must see(and hear) concert. It meet all my expectations, and then some. The sound, the video, the fireworks all make this a must own for any Mettalica fan. Even if you're not a fan go buy this concert dvd, you will instantly be won over. I know I was, and I will be at their next concert in new york. ![]() So-called die hard "fans" cringe that vocalist James Hetfield has lost his edge. Music listeners stuck in the early 80's fret that the band doesn't play enough old material. Critics claim Metallica has sold out. Well, as bassist Jason Newstead said in a recent TV documentary on VH-1, Metallica has sold out: every seat, every time, anywhere they go. This video demonstrates why - disturbingly tight musicianship, mesmerizing lighting and pyro-techniques, and honest, often comedic, interaction with the crowd. The intro to "One" for example, a dizzying array of gunfire, explosions, and stunning camera work, is as good a DVD demo moment as you'll find. Impress your friends, scare your parents. Metallica manages to make an arena show feel intimate. Loaded with extras, "Cunning Stunts" comes highly recommended. ![]() Having been a huge Metallica fan for almost half of my 34 years, it was no surprise to me that I would plunk down $30 for this DVD. New video technology, excellent sound, etc. were all reasons to buy this. The quality of this video is exceptional. Great camera work, sound, lighting. It was all great. But Metallica has lost the edge they used to have. Hearing James Hetfield straining on vocals, I couldn't sit through this video. Although the musicianship is still top-notch, they sound to me like a very tired band. The newer material is also not my cup of tea and to have only a medley of the killer old stuff, it just didn't do it for me. I own almost everything Metallica ever put out, cd's and videos, but had to draw the line on Re-Load. I may pick it up at a second-hand cd store sometime. Kirk Hammett remains the best guitarist in the world as does Lars Ulrich on drums. Diehard Metallica fans-buy this DVD. Those old timers-spend your money elsewhere. ![]() I rented the video, and I like live concerts---I just got my home theater up and running, and if you would like to be at a Metallica concert without actually being there, this has to be it--- I do not like hard rock, but this video is a tour de force----everything from fireworks to you name it---and a lot of special features----get the two disc set---not one of the separate parts---highly recommended, well recorded sound, and lighting, and a real theatrical performance by these rockers-my hats are off to them, and I do now respect their artistry more---after watching the two video discs in the set----If you are a Metallica fan and don't have this, go out and buy a home theater just for this one set :) |
