Pantera: 3 - Vulgar Videos from Hell Number of Items: 1 Format: Color Studio: Wea/Elektra Entertainment Product Group: DVD Release Date: 1999-10-12 Buy from Amazon |
![]() Simply put, Pantera is by far my favorite metal band. The energy they exude in concert is unrivaled. However, this DVD barely even begins to capture any of that. The production of this DVD is poor. Everything from the title screen to the lack of scene selection to the clips that they show are badly chosen. When I purchased this DVD, I was hoping to see a lot of concert footage. But this lacks that. Instead, it shows a lot of clips of the members of Pantera playing pranks on each other or having a good time backstage... not to say that is not entertaining. But when I purchase a music group's DVD, I'm hoping that they have concert footage. The only good live concert footage that they have on this is from their Moscow concert, which was incredibly awesome! If they had two hours of that type of footage, then I would give this DVD 5 stars! Unfortunately, it lasts only a couple of songs. If you like music videos (MTV style), then this may be a good DVD set for you: the Pantera videos are contained on these discs. They even contain some extras like how and where they shot the videos. Bottom line is, if you want to see Pantera clown around and have fun while not playing music, then buy this DVD... you will love it. But if you are looking for concert footage, then I would pass on this and look towards Chaos DVD (Sepultura) or even Live At The Grand Olympic Auditorium (Rage Against The Machine). ![]() Before you immediantly vote "Not Helpful" (which I'm sure most of you will do without even reading this), I'm actually a fan of Pantera, which is why this DVD upset me so much. One big problem I faced was that there were no chapter breaks, meaning that you had to watch each hour-long video in one sitting. Those who just want to automatically watch the music videos will have to fast forward through the whole thing just to get to them. The main attraction of this thing is the video content itself, in which case, "Vulgar Videos from Hell" isn't very good. We get three hour-long videos which show the exact same stuff: the band members making complete fools out of themselves. They throw stuff around, they cuss at each other, and do loads of other boring crap that no one cares about. This kind of stuff is a little interesting for about 15 minutes, but it becomes unbearable at the end of the hour. I really can't believe I paid $34.99 for this thing. What a waste. ![]() RIP DIME!!! This is a great DVD for any fan of this colossal band. Being a local resident to the Funky Town/Arlington area where these guys (with the exception of Phil) are from, I have had the privilege of seeing these guys perform in basements all the way up to packed stadiums. Yeah- and for all you little whining half nerd panty wastes, the DVD could use some added functionality but does it even need it!!?? If you are a fan you will find a lot here that far exceeds what you can do with the disc (Give me a break and leave this one for the O.G.'s)!!!!!!!! RIP DIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]() This was by far the best DVD of all time. Not only the best band DVD, but best DVD period! Phil is God! He is funny and one helluva vocalist. Nobody can compete with him. Also, for people that like Pantera and heavier music, listen to Superjoint Ritual ![]() Well, my friend has had this one since the initial 1999 release. Back then it was common practice to put out DVDs of poor construction and little or no perks. This one definately falls into that category. As others have reviewed before, it is basically 3 VHS vids thrown on a DVD with no chapter points. Of course I love the material involved, but even 5 years ago the lack of chapters was a huge letdown. Fortunately these days I can re-author the thing myself, adding chapters to skip to and fixing that hissy sound (almost sounds like the older stuff was a straight VHS to DVD transfer). So my final result is much better than this original. Not slamming Pantera, mind you, but I would have a hard time paying $35 for a used copy of this. |
