![]() It's difficult enough to talk to family about feelings, let along Metallica, arguably one of the most famous heavy metal band in the world. Four years ago, prior to issuing their St Anger album, the band was heading towards an implosion, which would slowly but definitely choke the band to death. The bass player by the name of Jason walked out. The morale among the group was an all-time low, particularly between the drummer, Lars and the lead singer, James. The coming of this documentary was accidental too as the Directors only meant to get publicity shoots for the music studio but later, they realised that they got a winner in their hand. A coach was engaged to facilitate open discussions among the band members and that's when the fun began. Many times viewing through the documentary, I had to remind myself that they were heavy metal music players and yet, they tried to be constructive and determined to fix their problems. As James said in one of the excerpts, they knew they had a problem and they decided that a therapy would be imperative to bring them on-track. Good on them! There were funny moments (not intended to be funny but just happened to be coming out that way) such as James attending his daughter's ballet class, Kirk (the lead guitarist) showing them band members his skull collections and celebrating his 40th birthday and Lars getting jealous (oversensitive) for not been told before hand about the theme, et cetera. There were also poignant moments such as James talking candidly about his dynfunctional family, there were spontaneous moments such as the band showing up prior to Raiders match and gave a performance of their lifetime at the parking lot and the list goes on. Towards the end, you would identify every and each of them on first name basis. It's really intriguing watching how St Anger got made, receptiveness of Metallica embracing other genre such as hip-hop as they jammed with Ja Rule and so forth. An honest documentary that portrayed that even superfamous people like themselves are human afterall and it's really respecting to see them admitting to their faults and dealing with them in stride. DVD is a must-have. I watched this documentary in the cinema only to find out that there were hours and hours of extras (more intimate and funny scenes) in the compilation. Highly recommended. ![]() all and all it was very interesting. They took some heat for spending a lot of money, but I thought it was a good watch. ![]() I'm a fan of Metallica, as well as my brother, so when i heard that this movie was comming out, i imediatly saw it. This was such a great movie. Vey interesting to see what it was like for Metallica, between 2001-2003, when they were working on another brilliant album 'ST. ANGER'. I also liked how it wasn't acting, but actual footage. What a great movie! - - i definetly recomend it to you. ALL i have to say is - - BUY IT. ![]() Man most of these critics on the album on St. Anger and this movie. Do you all even have a life. The documentary is one of the best rock docs ever made. You have to be real bitter to not appreciate and understand the meaning behind this movie. This is a must see. ![]() Classic! Very cynical of them to take the p#ss out of everyone with this satirical dig at reality TV. I can't wait till they come out and tell everybody. Please, tell me I'm right?! I could not sit through this pile of crap. It is either the biggest practical joke played on whoever thought this was real or it is the most pathetic display of humanity I've seen! (ok, maybe not the most, but of a rock band for sure). That 'performance coach' must be some kind of comedy actor, but he is not funny. If he is real then the future is lost. Who would pay money for such an idiot? His comments are inane crap and the "yeah, I hear what you're saying" looks from the band are......I dunno, mentally retarded! Is this what a rock'n'roll lifestyle turns a person into? A moron? I can't get my head around this, Metallica are "What is and Should Never Be". Give up guys, your families need you to be normal. Unless it was all a joke of course... |
