"A stunning concert captured on an excellent video production"
DT is undoubtedly one of the greatest prog bands of the 90s. This DVD shows them at its peak performace on stage, including classic tracks along with their recent hits. The inclusion of ?A Change Of Seasons? in it full 25 minutes is remarkable. 5.1 audio is superb, video is very good also. DVD edition is full of features, including chapters devoted to the crew and the fans, two indispensable components for a great tour. Several tour photos are included also. A must for any Dream Theater fan.

"Could anything by Dream Theater not be incredible?"
And Dream Theater continues to amaze me, this time by producing an almost exact replication of their "Metropolis Part II: Scenes From a Memory" album in an epic New York concert. As usual, the band doesn't miss a single beat and adds new dimensions of energy and excitement to the original music with their emphatic, brilliant musicianship on stage. Included with the original album (and awesome onstage videowork that flawlessly complements the live performance) is a great background commentary by the entire band (though one gets the feeling that John Myung is a bit shy on tape) and performances of other songs from the concert not from "Scenes From a Memory."
If you're a Dream Theater fan, then buy this DVD. If you haven't really heard much by the group, but you are a fan of advanced progressive/metal rock (especially by a group of such talented performers: John Petrucci is by now a guitar legend, John Myung less famous, but a brilliant, brilliant bass and lead bass player, and Jordan Rudess is one of the most impressive keyboard performers in the world), then buy this DVD. The performance only adds to the magic of the already genius music.

"Best Music"
These guys are from outer space. They rock!

"Just MARVELLOUS !!!!"
I have no words to describe the emotion I feel when I watch this concert. How could be possible I descovered DT just days ago listening rock in internet?.
This is without no doubt one of the biggest bands on earth, since I get the dvd I'm not go to sleep if I don't watch them.

I will do easy for you, if you really like good music and excelent musicians, DON'T HESITATE ONE SECOND and buy this DVD, you will not be sorry.

"an example of musical virtuosity"
if you're reading this review, you're probably at least, a bit familiar with the band dream theater. if you're not, know that they are 4 (5 if you count the lead singer, james labrie) of the most talented musicians on the face of the planet. dream theater's "metropolis 2000- scenes from new york" proves this beyond a shadow of a doubt.

what's great about this dvd is that it shows the complete performance of their album "metropolis part 2- scenes from a memory" in it's entirety. instead of getting a bunch of songs from a band's newest release, added to a bunch of old favorites, you get one of the greatest rock albums (this is no exaggeration- it's up there with pink floyd's "the wall," queensryche's "operation: mindcrime" and other albums of similar ilk) of all-time, performed live. not only that, but the extras, not included on the vhs version of this show, contain an additional hour of live material performed the same evening- three epic dream theater pieces: "a change of seasons" (which is 25 mins long, and the only official live release of this song), "learning to live," and the three-part song "a mind beside itself." this added bonus, itself, is more than worth the price of admission.

the only bad thing i could say about this dvd is that, throughout the show, you're "treated" to some 80's style "special effects" that look more like a bad experience with acid than anything else. the good news is, that it's not overwhelming. still, if it weren't for the extra bonus footage, this might've caused me to rate the dvd a 4 instead of a 5.

the most important thing to realize here, is that this band has more musical talent and ability in one member's toe than any other popular band today has in their entire band. and you get to see them live. john petrucci truly is a master of guitar. you hear him on a cd and think "that's not possible. there must be some over-dubs or other tricks involved." and then you see him live, and still can't believe it. mike portnoy on drums is the only drummer alive (w/ maybe the possible exception of carter beauford- highly underrated) who can be mentioned in the same breath as neil peart. (mike portnoy also directed this dvd, and did a fantastic job!) john myung is probably the most underrated bassist alive. probably because he's shy and isn't concerned with critical acclaim. but his bass riffs are more complicated than most band's guitar riffs. and jordan ruddess is amazing on keyboards. this guy does it all. james labrie, the lead singer, isn't anything to write home about, but he is good, and his voice and style fit almost perfectly with the music the band plays.

conclusion- buy this dvd if you're a fan of dream theater. buy this dvd if you're a fan of great live performances. and most importantly, if you respect GOOD music, and you're not very familiar with dream theater, BUY THIS DVD. you will NOT be dissapointed. the musical talent these guys possess is just sick. every musician is a virtuoso (three of them met at the berkley school of music) and stand head-and-shoulders above their peers. besides, the music is just plain GOOD.
